The artist behind the Giant Pumpkin is a woman out of Idaho Springs, Colorado, Jan Bowland.
About the Artist
Jan is a resident of Idaho Springs and continues to contribute to many amazing projects. She is currently serving as the President of the Idaho Springs Historical Society and oversees operations of the Idaho Springs Visitor Center.
Jan, alongside her wonderful husband Bob are also investors, partners, and contributors of the Argo Mill and Tunnel and upcoming Cable Car Project!
However, Jan has become quite the celebrity for her Giant Pumpkin covering over the Charlie Tayler Waterwheel that sits along I-70 and Exit 240 to Idaho Springs, Colorado.
I was completely blown away when discovering that Jan solely created this beautiful piece of art by hand! Truly amazing!!
And… Did I mention that the Water Wheel is 30 Feet in Diameter??? Well… I know one thing for certain, that’s a ton of fabric!!!
So the next time you’re driving along the I-70 Corridor, I hope you realize the love that was poured into creating Jan’s Giant Pumpkin.

Why this story?
Well, love for Jan and her giant pumpkin … but also to recognize the incredible partnership of working with incredible women in Clear Creek County!
As Tourism Director, Cass had the honor of working with Jan on multiple projects in the County and most recently worked together with Lisa Leben and other local stakeholders for the Mount Evans/Mount Blue Sky and Guanella Pass Scenic Byway Committee.
